So (sew) Many Projects!

Sew, Stitch, Mend, Repair, Transform. These words convey it all.

Last week I grabbed my sewing basket got into my spot on the sunporch and spent a few days working on an old pair of jeans reattaching some old patches and adding new ones using needle and thread. They’ve seen my sewing machine in the past but, this time I was itching to do something with my hands.

I thought of the old English proverb: “A stitch in time saves nine” which means you should fix something as soon as it is damaged, do not wait to deal with a specific problem. If not, things will get worse and the problems will escalate.

Finished!

SEW: join, fasten, or repair (something) by making stitches with a needle and thread or a sewing machine.

Not only do I mend old jeans for myself and others. I’ve seamed curtains, my son’s hockey jerseys and pants. I’ve sewn felt christmas stockings. I created curtains for our kitchen. I purposely didn’t line them because I wanted more light. I love to create pillow covers. I’ve sewn them for myself my mother-in-law and my sister. I even created a cover for my son out of an old t-shirt of his.

The Ikat, Shibori and floral are by me.

Recently I added fabric to the bottom of too short existing hallway curtains.

When I was young my mother crocheted afghans. We both needle-pointed. I used to hook rugs too. There was a fabulous shop in town the owner an Interior Designer sold accessories, decor and furniture. Rita (my mom) would find wonderful needlepoint kits at her shop.

I stitched this heart a few years ago just to see how it would turn out.

I definitely want to create more and get back into needlework and I’d love to learn how to knit one day.

Til next time friends be well.
