Thrifting Day Fun!

Saturday September 30th my sister and I drove out to East Stroudsburg PA. We did a bit of shopping before heading back to New Jersey and enjoying dinner at the Buck Hill Brewery and Restaurant. Fall is the best time to take a ride out past the Delaware Water Gap.

We visited a favorite thrifting haunt the Olde Engine Works and went to a new to us store Asparagus Sunshine. Here’s a glimpse of treasures I saw and my purchases. We had a ton of fun!

We spent the first hour of our shopping trip inside the additional area seen below. The garage door on the far right is packed with additional vendors.

I was tempted to bring this little plastic 2inch rectangle home.

Some things that caught my eye:

  • Fairwinds china. I own a few pieces and love the design.

  • Green leather top table. We know I don’t need any furniture.

  • Schumacher material. I couldn’t think of a project for it.

  • There Was An Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe lamp. How cool for a child’s room.

And speaking of lamps… a horse lamp similar to the one on my mantel!

We have this Soda Tray at home…from my husbands childhood.

Here is what I purchased from stop # 1. This Daher Decorated 8x6 Tray.

This is the Olde Engine Works main building.

They have hundreds of vendors.

Some things that caught my eye:

  • Tower of London collection.

  • Vintage Temple Etching. I’m familiar with this design and like it.

  • Apothecary Jars. Lovely design.

  • Tower Bridge Etching. I love Tower Bridge and have an etching in my collection.

Here is what I purchased from stop # 2. A paper mache Bermuda Tray. I love all things Bermuda having visited 7 times so far in my life. A fun Howard Johnson’s ashtray - the hotel/motel I stayed in most growing up with my parents and siblings - my love of Orange and Turquoise can be traced back to Ho Jo’s I wrote this about the chain. And this little Santa tin - it feels really familiar to me; maybe I had it before. I believe it originally had candy inside.

Next we visited Asparagus Sunshine. They have vintage pieces, new items and a whole lot in-between.

Small Swans was a theme - I spied a version of these in each store.

Some things that caught my eye:

  • Vintage Ornaments

  • Vintage Pottery Light Up Christmas Trees. I remember those fondly my mom made one at a local pottery class in the 1980’s.

  • Random chess and checker pieces. So fun and I love this design idea for a playroom. (as long as no one is too young to put them in their mouth).

  • Mix and Match playing board pieces. I love this SO much!!!

Here is what I purchased from stop # 3. How fun to find Monopoly Cards referencing our favorite street in Ocean City NJ. With my love of postcards (I wrote this ) these from the 1964-1965 World’s Fair in NY. the Pavilion of American Interiors and The House of Good Taste had to be added to the permanent collection here in the Chalet. The Souvenir Booklet was too delightful to pass up. It unfolds and has colored image and the best part to me besides the art is the date of 1922. I do really love paper items!

I hope this inspires you to go treasure hunting. If you’re in the area I encourage you to visit the Olde Engine Works and Asparagus Sunshine. Til next time be well.
