A Cheery Warmly Goodly Wine

I so very much hope you had the very Happiest Christmas!

One thing that is sure to happen when we gather with family and friends is the raising of a glass or two! So in keeping with the spirit of the season I thought I would share a few cocktails we love around the Chalet. #slainte (pronounced: Slaancha - Irish for Your Health!)

whiskey sour

whiskey sour

I can’t close this piece without a Whiskey Sour - a real sour made with an egg! It’s so pretty and a personal fav! But, it must be made with Jameson Irish Whiskey for this momma!

Method

  • Place the 2 ounces of whiskey, 1 ounce lemon juice, 3/4 ounce simple syrup and 1 egg white in a cocktail shaker. Do not add ice yet.

  • Seal and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. (This is referred to as a "dry shake." It's good for incorporating the egg white before adding ice to the shaker.)

  • Add ice, seal again, and shake for 7 to 10 seconds more to chill.

  • Fit a Hawthorne strainer over the top of the shaker and pour the cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer into a coupe glass. This is referred to as a "double strain" and this method is used to catch any ice shards or pulp from the fresh-squeezed lemon juice.

  • Garnish with a speared maraschino cherry.
