What's In A Box...

Sometimes what I write about comes from simply being asked a question. In this week’s case it was What do you collect?

Everyone knows I like many things - I have a ton of Books and Art… sitting next to me as I type is a frame that needs filling and then it will need a home - but, I digress… if pressed the answer is definitively Boxes. Yes, I collect boxes.

This antique Chinese porcelain box is the real deal. I took this image during my visit to the Decorators Showhouse Tyvan Hill last September with my sister. This box has stayed in the back of my mind and on my phone. Every once in a while I scroll Etsy looking to see if I can find something as lovely. As my dear friend Michele Strauts says it’s on my Unicorn List and when an object stays with you - eventually I hope you’ll find it.

Let’s look at the pieces in my collection.

The burl-wood box is a humidor, the cloisonne piece belonged to my father and the foo dog is a new favorite thrifted find from Emma and Jean Studio.

This leather wrapped box was found at Marshalls 25 years ago and the beautiful little round leather piece is from Italy. The heart was a gift from my Mom when I was a girl. I thrifted the brass box with the cool snack head handle

I love this piece from Homesense and my Elena Boiardi Ziggy heart.

The three pieces in the hall consist of a capiz shell box several years old from Pottery Barn, an orange lacquer box from C Wonder prior to them being an apparel only division of Walmart and this little box with all the bugs is part of the Grace Mitchell | At Home Store collection.

The side table in the livingroom holds some deeply pretty pink treasures the top being another work of Elena Boiardi and underneath is actually one of a set from a very dear friend.

My latest purchase is this beautiful jasperware treasure I picked up when we were at the beach in August from the Cape May Antiques Center.

Recently my 10 yr old son asked if I’d like this stack of pancakes clay box he made when he was 6. I emphatically said YES and now this treasure has pride of place in our diningroom.

The thing I adore about boxes is they can be filled with treasures and can go anywhere in any space. I’m always moving these pieces around the Chalet.
